SUPERVINYL
June 2024 - Present
Supervinyl is an innovative record store located in Hollywood, CA with a unique and fresh business model to attract and maintain a loyal following. In addition to their extensive archive of vinyl records, they sell audio equipment, and apparel exclusive to the store. On occasion, Supervinyl holds special meet & greet events with various top artists such as Beyonce, Billie Eillish, The Marias, and Charli XCX, to name a few. They were in need of support with their website and entrusted Chanel Katherine to update and modify their platform.
Previous
Current
Supervinyl uses Shopify for their website. With their previous page, I noticed that the margins were misaligned and the website itself was not responsive for other devices. This issue was due to the custom code, and the best solution was to recreate the website from scratch, using a theme that was compatible with Shopify. Supervinyl wanted the online experience to replicate that of being in store, and we chose to use the theme, Berlin, as it was the most similar to the previous theme. Below highlights key changes to their website.
Navigation
I chose to have the logo in line with the rest of the links to leave more room for website content. Each link on the left has an individual drop-down menu layout to give the user a different way to view each category. The content in each menu has the same as the previous layout, along with new additions to keep users up to date with featured products.
Section Differentiation
Like the navigation, each section on the home page is slightly different than the other. This provides a less mundane experience and allows the user to see each section as it’s own, exciting category. Supervinyl obtained a large collection of The Rolling Stones vinyl’s, as well as custom turntables and apparel, so I created a collection of them to be highlighted on the homepage. In addition, I wanted to create a section that features certain artists so viewers know that Supervinyl has a collection of top artists. Both sections are located on the home page.
Mobile Webpage
The previous website had some issues with layout, especially with mobile devices, as shown in the first video to the left. The layout wasn’t like this for all products but it was for a random few, which means it was an issue with back-end coding. In the new version, it had limited custom CSS that is also compatible with Shopify updates. The new version has a similar layout but has a consistent layout that is easy for the user to navigate.
Collection Pages
The collections page have a different layout that gives the pages a more immersive layout for users. The hero image is blank for now but there is an option to customize the image for each collection (i.e. New Arrivals, Merch, Pre-Orders, etc.).
